Excessive foot pronation (flat feet) has been associated w/ several pathologies. These pathologies include, achillies tendinopathy, posterior tibialis tendinopathy, knee ACL-MCL sprains/rupture, hip pain & back pain. That being said, everyone’s’ feet are shaped differently &, there are definitely instances where some may have flat feet w/ no symptoms at all… our bodies are amazing & vary tremendously! 🎾 Biomechanically speaking, an active & healthy arch position provides a stable base for the muscles of the foot/ankle to work optimally & efficiently. This facilitates adequate attenuation & absorption of weight bearing forces during activities such as running. In the absence of an ideal arch & muscle function of the foot/ankle, the muscles & joints are placed under extreme stress/strain & may result in injury. 🎾 The flat foot position may also place ⬆️ demand up the chain. As the foot pronates the tibia & the femur internally rotate (this is supposed to happen). However, if IR of the leg is not controlled (very abrupt & or fast) due to excessive pronation, the muscles, joints, and ligaments may endur excessive stress and strain. This may include gluteal tendinopathy as the glutes oppose IR of the leg, knee MCL & ACL sprain/rupture as they oppose IR forces about the knee, femoral acetabular impingement (anterior hip pain), excessive anterior pelvic tilt of the pelvis w/ resultant back pain may occur. 🎾 In short, if the capacity of the tissues & joints are exceeded by the external demand, overuse injury may occur. 🎾 The following exercise/progressions are geared to ⬆️ motor control/awareness of the arch position. 🎾 1️⃣Short Dome -  Start w/ knee in line w/ 2nd toe - Then bring the knee to the outside of foot while maintaining big toe knuckle in contact w/ the floor. - Repeat bringing the knee in & outside of the foot. 2️⃣Modified single leg squat - Maintain arch as you go from sit to standing. 3️⃣Single Leg balance - Same as above 🔸 ➖Guidelines ➖ ❌Gripping excessively w/ big toe. 🔸Use towel under toes to ⬇️ gripping into floor 🔸You should feel the arch of the foot working. 🔸Resistance band under big toe for cue.

Perfect Pullovers – The ‘Regular’ Pullover So now we have the final pullover after building the competency and control of spinal extension, and learning to really drive hip extension. The challenge of this pullover is to create as much bilateral hip extension as you can, whilst maintaining a posterior tilt of the pelvis. Getting the weight into position is probably the toughest part of this exercise, but you shouldn't just lumber it into place at the expense of good position. In fact, you probably need much less than you think you do. Although if you're a beast, getting someone to help you get the weight into position is no big deal. Start by actively tucking your pelvis before bringing your hips into extension, and maintain that tuck. If you want to nail the pullover, you're only going to let your arms go as far back whilst not using the tuck. If you do, you've lost your hip extension and posterior tilt. This should be hard! Breathing as before - inhale as you go back, exhale as you return. Want to supercharge it? Inhale as you go back, exhale there, take another breath in before you go back, and exhale on the return. Abs and glutes in 3 sets, or your money back. And that's that for the pullover, thanks for viewing as always friends!

I spent my entire shift today (I started at 7am 😭) craving maccas but I didn’t give in, and when I got home I didn’t even touch the packet of Tim tams my sister was snacking on and I’m so proud of myself for sticking to that little chant 😁😂 it sounds super excessive but I have 0 willpower and a raging appetite for junk food so limiting what junk I do eat has been a huge problem for me in the past ! On office days I drive a short distance to the train, which brings me into the city. Today, I got the window seat AND facing the direction the train was moving! A win! I spent a few minutes, "in the moment", taking in the view: a few rare wooded sections followed by increasingly more urban homes. With a very full day ahead of me today, I chose to focus my thoughts in the present and shifted my attention to the view. All the people around me in the train, that are half asleep, were out of view. I found the beauty in that moment. Practice the same today. Shift your perspective away from your pain to find the beauty that surrounds you. There is a way out of your pain. Free of meds and to avoid surgery.
